Câu 16 và 17 (Listening Part 4) là hai bài độc thoại dài khoảng 40–60 giây, mỗi bài 2 câu hỏi, mỗi câu 3 phương án. Đây là phần khó nghe nhất vì giọng nhanh, từ vựng B2 và phương án dài. Điểm tốt là ngân hàng chủ đề có hạn: cộng đồng ôn thi đã ghi lại 58 bộ câu hỏi, và đề thật xoay vòng trong số đó.
Cấu trúc cố định của một bài câu 16–17
Hai câu hỏi gần như luôn hỏi hai nửa của bài nói:
- Câu 1 hỏi về một chi tiết cụ thể ở nửa đầu: lý do, ưu điểm, điều gì đã xảy ra.
- Câu 2 hỏi ý kiến chung của người nói ở nửa sau, thường sau các cụm Overall, In general, Personally, What worries me, In my view.
Vì vậy hãy đọc trước hai câu hỏi, gạch chân từ khóa, rồi chia bài nghe làm hai nửa. Đừng cố nghe từng chữ.
Phương án đúng là bản diễn đạt lại

Những cặp đáp án lặp lại giữa các "phiên bản"
Nhiều chủ đề có 2–3 phiên bản với câu hỏi khác chữ nhưng đáp án cùng ý. Nhớ theo ý sẽ đỡ bị lừa khi đề trộn phiên bản:
- The sport (3 bản): ý thứ hai luôn là balance: helps balance students' lives · provides them with a balance in their lives · it provides balance.
- Advertising and sponsoring (3 bản): quảng cáo thì reach new customers, tài trợ thể thao thì negative publicity hoặc not always good for sports fans.
- Managing financial spending (3 bản): ngắn hạn weekly plan / organize resources effectively, dài hạn seek advice from someone with experience.
- A promotion campaign (2 bản): công chúng nghĩ exaggerated claims, người nói nghĩ costs too much to make to be profitable.
- Script production (3 bản): lời thoại unrealistic hoặc bối cảnh nhân vật chưa khai thác, và new industry demand has a negative influence.
- The importance of sleep (2 bản): blocking out noise and light; bản 1 thêm can't recognize the symptoms of tiredness, bản 2 thêm the media overemphasize the subject.
- Regional development plan (2 bản): not enough alternatives to driving; bản 1 khó khăn là not making efficient use of existing land, bản 2 thách thức là resistance from local communities. Người thi từng bị trộn đáp án "land" vào câu hỏi "challenge".
